Terry L. Smith

August 18, 1953 - May 4, 2022

Terry Lee Smith, 68, of Cottonwood, AZ (formerly of Nora Springs, IA) passed away on May 4, 2022 at Flagstaff Medical Center in Flagstaff, AZ surrounded by family. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs. Inurnment will follow in Rock Grove Cemetery, Nora Springs. Terry family will greet relatives and friends one hour prior to his service at the funeral home on Saturday. Terry Lee Smith was born August 18, 1953, the youngest child of John L. Smith and Doris M. (Hagen) Smith. He grew up in Nora Springs and graduated from Nora Springs-Rock Falls High School in 1971. After high school, Terry enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in San Diego, CA. He was honorably discharged from the service in 1977. In September 1978 Terry was united in marriage to Kay Neve, also of Nora Springs. To this union, three children were born - Joshua John, Jacob Lee and Brook RaNae. In October 1980, Terry began a 33 year career with the Chicago & North Western and Union Pacific Railroads. He was very proud of his railroad career and the life long friendships he made throughout that career. In March 1988, Terry married Teresa Boehnke of Garner, IA and to this union two children were born – Krystle Lynn and Seth Charles. In October 2000, he married Sharri Garnette of Omaha, NE. Terry retired from the railroad on April 30, 2014. Following his retirement, he and Sharri moved to Cottonwood, AZ. Terry thoroughly enjoyed the company of his family and friends. He found joy in hearing about his grandchildren’s activities and latest achievements. He also enjoyed shooting pool, playing cards, golfing and enjoying the outdoors. Terry is survived by his wife, Sharri of Cottonwood, AZ; his children Joshua (Deanna) Smith of Garner, IA, Jacob (Michelle) Smith of Belmond, IA, Brook Smith of Mason City, IA, Krystle (John Holmes) Smith of Orlando, FL and Seth (Shelby Webb) Smith of Clear Lake, IA; step-son John Springborg or Mayer, AZ; 11 grandchildren - Trinity, Tristan, Matthew, McKenna, Jadan, David, Benjamin, Vernon, Adrian, Phoebe and Seneka; a brother, Randy (Candy) Smith and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends whom he loved dearly. Terry was preceded in death by his parents, John and Doris Smith; and siblings Michael (Annie) Smith, JaeLea (Gary) True and Ronald Smith.
