November 29, 1962 - September 28, 2020
Susan Marie Payne made it through the night and went with the light at 7:35 on the morning of September 28, 2020. Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. For this God is our God forever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death. Susan was born November 29, 1962 in Dubuque, Iowa. She grew up in Mason City with her parents, Laverne and Dolores McLaughlin. Susan took great pride in being a wonderful stay at home mother to Krystal and Angela. She moved back to Iowa in 1990. She lived in many other small towns in Iowa, but Mason City was always home. Most of all, Susan enjoyed her grandchildren. She also loved spending time with her dear friends who appreciated that her attitude was a way of life. She gave everyone a chance and knew we are all beautiful in some way and deserve to be given a little bit of love. Although she loved many others, family always came first; which includes Shadow (now a very happy resident of Colorado) and Nikita (still doggin’ in Mason City.) She knew family is not just an important thing, it is everything. Left to cherish her memory include her mother, Delores McLaughlin, Mason City; daughters, Krystal Payne, Colorado Springs, and Angela Dee Payne, Mason City; grandchildren, Dee Dee Murphy, Aurora Mejia, and Elliot Van Lengen; brothers, Glen McLaughlin and Todd Chambers; sister, Cathy chambers; step father, Don Eckerman; and many extended relatives and close friends. Susan is preceded in death by her father, Laverne McLaughlin; brother, Joey McLaughlin; grandmother, Viola Abrams; biological mother, Barb Eckerman; and beloved dog, Lucky. For God is my witness, how greatly I long for you all with the affection of Jesus Christ. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. Condolences may be left in Susan’s name in care of Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE, Mason City or at ColonialChapels.com. For those of you who have shared condolences prior to October 15, 2020, please know the thankfulness of the Payne family. Sadly your condolences and words of encouragement were not received due to theft at the family home. Susan’s family has held a private service in her honor.
