Kaitlin Marie Bergan was born October 30, 1994 in Mason City, to Scott and Lorena (Schmitz) Bergan. Growing up, she was an outgoing artist who explored her skills in band, choir, piano, tennis, dance, speech and drama at Steben’s Theatre. She spent many of her summers serving as a lifeguard at the Mason City Family Aquatic Center. Kaitlin began her education at NIACC before graduating from Mason City High School. She took night courses in order to ensure she could continue her many activities, still earning her place on the Dean's List. Kaitlin continued her education at the University of Iowa where she earned a degree in Health and Human Physiology. Continuing her outgoing nature, she was on the University’s water ski team her freshman year. It was soon after that she began her career as a Paramedic, working on the volunteer Fire Department in Coralville. Kaitlin began teaching EMS classes at the University of Iowa, even driving the CAM bus on campus. Soon after Kaitlin met Jason Lang, and the couple immediately clicked. Life took them to Memphis, TN where Kaitlin was accepted as a Paramedic Firefighter onto their elite team, and was training to work in the Special Ops Station. Kaitlin was a dedicated young woman that conquered her goals, no matter the obstacles placed in front of her. When she set her sights on something, she never backed down. Kaitlin discovered a passion for rock climbing, even winning her very first competition. This led her to many adventures, including trips to the Smoky Mountains. It was here her heart found true peace, and was one of her favorite places to hike and climb. Motorcycle rides brought her great joy as her heart sought broader horizons. Kaitlin made an impact on everyone she met. Those left to cherish her memory are her parents, Scott A. and Lorena H. Bergan; brothers, Bradly “Brad” Bergan of Des Moines and Craig Bergan of Decorah; maternal grandparents, Dale and Frances Schmitz of Clive, IA; aunts and uncles, Deborah (Brett) Bostrom, Barbara King, Michael (Laura) Bergan, David (Jane) Bergan, Douglas (Jenny) Bergan, Ann Schmitz, Tony (Jamie Gilley) Schmitz, and Kevin (Heather) Schmitz; as well as numerous cousins and extended family. Preceding Kaitlin in death are her paternal grandparents, Richard and Janice Bergan and fiancé, Jason Lang on February 26, 2022. Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel. ColonialChapels.com. 641-423-2372.
