Irene D. Hanson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Irene D. (Munson) Hanson, 87, of Mason City, died on Monday, February 15, 2021 at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City. A memorial service will be held 11:00 Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE, Mason City, with Rev. Kathy Graves of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Irene’s family will greet relatives and friends one hour prior to her service at the funeral home on Saturday. Should friends desire, memorials may be left in her honor to the American Cancer Society or Trinity Lutheran Church. The daughter of Murl and Florence (Oldenburg) Munson, Irene Doris was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin on July 9, 1933. She attended La Crosse Central High School, graduating among the class of 1951. Following high school Irene enrolled at St. Francis School of Nursing and completed her degree in 1954. She was employed at La Crosse Lutheran Hospital until her marriage to Stanley R. Hanson on July 12, 1958 at First Baptist Church in La Crosse. The couple settled in Decorah where Irene was involved in Mother’s Club, Oneota Golf Club and bridge club. She was a faithful member of Decorah Lutheran Church. After the couple moved to Mason City in 1995 they became members of Trinity Lutheran Church. Irene also began volunteering with the American Cancer Society and Discovery Shop. Those grateful in sharing in her life are her daughter, Janelle (Scott) Bothwell, Nora Springs; grandsons, Nathan (Brenna) Bothwell and Carl (Amy) Bothwell; granddaughter, Heather (Marc) Foelske; great grandchildren, Jaxson, Sophia, and Jase Bothwell, and Logan and Madison Foelske; as well as her nieces and nephews, extended relatives and many friends. Irene is preceded in death by her husband, Stan; son, Jeffrey Alan Hanson; granddaughter in infancy, Sara Bothwell; parents; and siblings, Vivian Munson and Roy Munson.
