Harriet J. Winden

February 11, 1937 - April 25, 2022

Harriet J. (Stokke) Winden, 85, of Hanlontown, IA died April 25, 2022 at MercyOne North Iowa Hospice. Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Friday April 29, 2022 at the Church of Christ, 3493 Eagle Ave, Fertile, IA. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Grant Center Cemetery, rural Fertile, IA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fertile Church of Christ. Harriet was born on February 11, 1937 to Leo and Hazel (Haugen) Stokke at the family home in Fertile, IA. After Harriet graduated from Fertile High School in 1955, she went on to study Early Education at Waldorf College in Forest City, IA. While attending Waldorf she also sang in the Waldorf Choir. She graduated in 1957. Harriet taught school in Fertile, IA and Clear Lake, IA. On June 16, 1962, Harriet was united in marriage to Richard Winden of Joice, IA at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. The couple moved to Minneapolis where they lived for 7 years before moving to Hanlontown, IA. Harriet was employed at the Colby Peat Plant in Hanlontown for a “good long time”. Harriet attended Fertile Church of Christ where she sang in the choir and helped with Christian Workers. She enjoyed Sunday School class and visiting with her church family. On April 20, 2022, she was baptized. Her hobbies included reading, painting, gardening and enjoying lunches with her Fertile Birthday Club. She is survived by nieces and nephews, Sheryl Cashion, Dan King, Gwen Scott, Kevin Stokke and John Stokke, also many dear friends. Harriet was preceded in death by her husband Richard on February 24, 2005, parents Leo and Hazel (Haugen) Stokke, brothers Francis (Jack) and Wendell Stokke, sisters Geraldine McArthur and Silence Johnson.
