Betty Jean Gallagher

February 1, 1941 - January 29, 2022

Betty Jean Gallagher, 80, passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022, in Bloomington, MN. A Funeral Service will be held 10:00am, Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel 126 3rd St NE, Mason City, IA. Burial will take place in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, IA, where Betty will be laid to rest next to her husband Patrick. Visitation will be from 9:00am to 10:00am at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel 126, 3rd St NE, Mason City, IA. Betty was born on February 1, 1941, the daughter of Carl and Irene (DeMar) Sexton of Mason City. Being the second oldest and the only daughter of five children being a caretaker was instinctive. She graduated from Mason City High School. On June 20, 1959 in Mason City, Iowa Betty married Patrick James Gallagher, and together they raised 3 children. The couple celebrated 62 years of marriage in 2021 before Patrick’s passing in August. Growing up, Betty was a high achiever in school. Her strengths were in math and language arts. She was described as soft spoken and shy by her teachers. Betty was also gifted with beautiful penmanship and had a hidden artistic flair. Betty devoted her life as a Christian wife and mother. She enjoyed serving and giving of her time to others. For 17 years Betty worked outside the home due to necessity. Upon retirement, she was able to fulfill her true passion once again by becoming the caretaker of her grandchildren. After her grandchildren grew up she continued to demonstrate her love, with acts of service to many of her daughter's daycare children. They would bring bags of stuff toys and blankets to Grandma Betty. She would mend them and Grandpa Pat would happily deliver the repaired toys and blankets to the children. Betty would receive handmade Christmas and birthday cards from her daycare "grandchildren " to show their love for her. In her younger years she loved roller skating just like her father. A one time childhood dream was to be a famous singer and dancer. Betty embraced all genres of music from Elvis Presley, Shania Twain, Bon Jovi to the Backstreet Boys. Often times she would turn up the radio and sing while driving her grandchildren to and from school. Traveling was something that Betty enjoyed later on in life. Pat and Betty took many trips to Branson, MO, to see musicals. Being able to spend time on several of the islands in Hawaii was a once in a lifetime experience. Betty and pat had very different personalities but they were so perfect for each other. Betty's sweet demeanor shined through to all her knew her. She helped mold her grandchildren to be the most gentle, selfless and loving people, her legacy will live on forever through them. Those who are left to cherish memories of Betty are her children, Michelle (Holte), Julie (Imoto), and Steven; grandchildren, Courtney and Melvin Holte; Rollie, Jarryd (Annie), Jordan (Paige M) and Maya Imoto; Nora Gallagher and Jack Conlon; brothers Jerry, Melvin and Raymond; as well as countless extended family and friends. Preceding her in death are her husband, Patrick; a grandson, Addison Imoto; both parents, and a brother, Rick.
